Studio for Inventory and Research of Architectural Monuments
Leader: dr hab. inż. Ulrich Schaff, prof. UMK
The scope of activities of the Studio is focused on conducting architectural research on both wooden and brick architectural objects, including:
-
Performing architectural inventory measurements and drawings, i.e., collecting data – 3D laser scanner point clouds of architectural heritage, based on which floor plans, sections, and elevation views are developed.
-
Conducting architectural research on masonry and timber structures, including:
-
Analyzing the construction of buildings (masonry and timber), their chronological stratification, and reconstructing the phases of architectural heritage functioning
-
Collecting material for dendrochronological studies
-
Developing a research program for architectural investigations
-
- Assessing the condition of objects.
- Determining conservation conclusions.
- Developing architectural and conservation projects for conservation-restoration work
Architectural research is conducted for heritage buildings as part of pre-project work. It allows for the chronological stratification of the object and the reconstruction of its layout and form during different periods. These studies provide a deep understanding of the history of the object. Based on this, the main conservation conclusions are drawn concerning future construction and conservation-restoration works.
Dendrochronological analyses allow for precise dating of wooden elements, serving as a crucial complement to architectural research.
